An EV charging station is a series of chargers for electric vehicles. They are necessary in order to maintain the power of the electric vehicle’s battery. Similar to how a car needs gas in order to drive. On a basic level, EV chargers work by pulling an electric current from a 240v outlet or the grid the charger is hardwired to. The electricity is then transferred to the car like when you plug in your phone. 

Generally speaking, a J1772 plug will work for most electric vehicles. However, if you own a Tesla, this won’t work. Teslas need to be charged at a Tesla EV charging station; unless you have an adaptor.
